Dr. Rui Meng is a Professor of Finance and Accounting at China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) and the Parkland Chair Professor of Finance. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Chartered Risk Manager (CRM). Prior to joining CEIBS, Dr. Rui taught in the Department of Finance and Accounting at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He was a tenured professor at CUHK. He served as Deputy Director of the China Accounting and Finance Center at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Economics and Finance at CUHK, Deputy Director of the Center for Corporate Governance at CUHK, Program Director of the Master of Accountancy (MACC) program at CUHK, and Program Director of the Executive Master of Professional Accountancy (EMPACC) program at CUHK.
Dr. Rui has received numerous awards in teaching and research. He received the Faculty Teaching Award at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, six years in a row, from 2004 to 2009. He received the 2013 Research Excellence Award at CEIBS and was awarded the first CEIBS Medal for Research Excellence in 2015 and the Teaching Excellence Award at CEIBS in 2017, 2023 and 2024. In 2018, he was awarded the CEIBS Excellent Service Award. In 2024, he received the CEIBS 30th Anniversary Faculty Outstanding Contribution Award. In 2013, he was recognized as a Young Chinese Economist and is a core member of the CEIBS Lujiazui Financial 50 Forum (CLF50).
Dr. Rui's teaching and research primarily focus on corporate finance. He has published over 70 articles in internationally renowned journals such as the Journal of Law and Economics, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Review of Accounting Studies, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, Journal of Comparative Economics, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Empirical Finance, European Financial Management, Journal of International Money and Finance, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, Journal of Behavioural Decision Making, Journal of Business Ethics, Financial Review, Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Multinational Financial Management, International Journal of Financial Management, International Review of Finance, Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money, Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, Corporate Governance: An International Review, Emerging Markets Review, and others.
He has also published more than 30 articles in top domestic journals such as Economic Research Journal, Journal of Management Sciences in China, Management World, China Economic Quarterly, The Journal of World Economy, Journal of Financial Research, China Soft Science, Journal of Systems Engineering, Systems Engineering—Theory & Practice, and Statistical Research.
He has authored books including "Empirical Research on China's Stock Market", "Corporate Finance", "Wealth Management Begins with Changing Your Cognition", "Social Responsibility: A Booster for Enterprise Development", and "Wealth Management Begins with Understanding Funds".
Dr. Rui's foresight and expertise in finance have made him a thought leader for renowned media outlets such as The New York Times, Financial Times, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg Businessweek, The Economist, Forbes, China Central Television (CCTV), China Daily, Phoenix Satellite Television, Shanghai Foreign Language Channel, China Business Network (CBN), 21st Century Business Herald, Xinmin Weekly, Guangzhou Daily, Hong Kong Economic Times, Sing Tao Daily, South China Morning Post, and Hong Kong Economic Journal.
In recent years, Professor Rui has focused his research on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), green finance, and family wealth management. He presents CEIBS's first lecture on entrepreneurs' social responsibility in the opening modules of the EMBA, FMBA, HEMBA, DBA, and Executive Education programs. He has developed experiential courses such as "Creating Shared Value—A Win-Win Strategy for Enterprises" and "Winning with Stakeholders: A Strategic Perspective". His team has released the "Research on Corporate Social Responsibility Reports of A-Share Listed Companies" for seven consecutive years. He has also launched the Chief Architect Course for Family Offices.
Professor Rui is a member of the Risk Management Committee of the Shanghai Clearing House and holds memberships with the American Finance Association, International Financial Management Association, American Accounting Association, and Hong Kong Securities Professionals Association. He serves on the Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Business Valuation Association and is the Vice President of the Hong Kong Financial Engineers Association. He previously served as a member of the Examination Committee of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, a senior financial expert at the Shanghai Stock Exchange, a visiting scholar at the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary Research, and a visiting scholar at the Asian Development Bank. Dr. Rui has served as an independent director for companies including Midea Group Co., Ltd., and COSCO Shipping Energy Transportation Co., Ltd, etc. He currently serves as an independent director for Hong Kong and U.S.-listed companies such as Country Garden Services, China Education Group, Landsea Group, Dexin Shengquan Service, and Bright Scholar Education.
