CEIBS Lecturer Nana Gyamfi wins WAIB Emerging Scholar Award
July 18, 2024. Shanghai — CEIBS Lecturer of Management Nana Yaa A. Gyamfi has been awarded the WAIB (Women in the Academy of International Business) Emerging Scholar at the annual AIB (Academy of International Business) Conference in Seoul.
The award is given each year to female AIB junior scholars for recognition of their high-quality research in international business.
Dr. Gyamfi’s groundbreaking work, which explores how managers in emerging economies leverage identity resources to mitigate cultural differences, challenges enduring assumptions in cultural identity research. Her research also won the Academy of Management International Management Division's Best Dissertation award in 2023.
Prior to becoming a lecturer, Dr. Gyamfi was a Research Associate and Human Resource Liaison at CEIBS. Dr. Gyamfi’s current research and teaching interest mostly focus on international management, organizational behaviour, and human resource management.
In giving the award, WAIB said “Dr. Gyamfi truly exemplifies WAIB’s values. Her research and teaching are poised to change the future direction of International Business at a pivotal moment of increasing attention to Africa-based IB activities. She already demonstrates exceptional service to others.”
In addition to being a well-respected faculty member at CEIBS, Dr. Gyamfi has shown an extraordinary commitment to service. In the past two years, she has won a Best Reviewer award and organized a seven-month paper development workshop and mentoring sessions for young African scholars. She is also developing teaching case studies on African businesses, aiming to enhance the resource base for addressing Africa-relevant issues in business education.
