Tan, Yinliang (Ricky)
Professor of Decision Sciences and Management Information Systems, CEIBS
Dr. Yinliang (Ricky) Tan is a Full Professor of Decision Sciences and Management Information Systems at China Europe International Business School (CEIBS). His research lies at the intersection of AI economics and AI management, with a particular focus on how artificial intelligence affects economic development, the digital economy, and AI transformation and organizational change. He has served as a visiting scholar at Stanford University’s Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence Institute (HAI) and the Digital Economy Lab.
Prior to joining CEIBS, Dr. Tan was a tenured Professor of Decision and Information Sciences and Bauer Chair Professor at the C.T. Bauer College of Business, University of Houston, where he also served as DBA Program Director and Area Coordinator for Supply Chain Management. Before that, he was Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Executive Director of the Goldring Institute of International Business at the Freeman School of Business, Tulane University, where he earned tenure and held an endowed professorship.
Dr. Tan received his Ph.D. from the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida, specializing in Information Systems and Operations Management. His research focuses on artificial intelligence and the digital economy, generative AI and large language models, and the managerial mechanisms underlying enterprise AI transformation, and he has extensive collaboration experience with leading companies in both China and the United States. He also has substantial teaching experience in data analytics and was named Teacher of the Year at the Freeman School of Business.
Professor Tan has published more than 20 papers in top-tier management and business journals recognized by the Financial Times, including Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Production and Operations Management, Manufacturing & Operations Management, and Human Relations. Professor Tan has also received several best paper awards. Currently, he serves as a Senior Editor for Production and Operations Management, Associate Editor for Information Systems Research, Decision Support Systems and Information & Management, Department Editor for the Decision Sciences Journal, and Editorial Board Member for Journal of Operations Management, Journal of Management Information Systems and Journal of Association for Information Systems.
In 2019, Professor Tan was named one of the world's Top 40 Business School Professors Under 40 by Poets & Quants and received an Early Career Achievement Award from the Decision Science Institute. In 2022, he was awarded the Sandy Slaughter Early Career Award by the INFORMS Information Systems Society for his contributions to the information systems field. In 2025, he received the CEIBS Annual Best Research Award and the Best Case Award from the UK Case Centre.
In his spare time, Dr. Tan enjoys collecting art and historical manuscripts and is particularly interested in the intersections of art, history, and technology.
