Tan, Yinliang (Ricky)
Professor of Decision Sciences and Management Information Systems, CEIBS
Dr. Yinliang (Ricky) Tan is a Full Professor of Decision Sciences and Management Information Systems at China Europe International Business School (CEIBS). Professor Tan has also served as a visiting scholar at Stanford University's Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence Institute and Digital Economy Lab. Prior to joining CEIBS, Professor Tan was a tenured faculty of Decision and Information Sciences at the C.T. Bauer College of Business, University of Houston (on leave 24-25). During his time there, he held various positions, including Senior Bauer Fellow, DBA Program Director, and Area Coordinator for Supply Chain Management. Additionally, he served as the Associate Director of the Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence Institute at the University of Houston and a Senior Research Fellow at the HPE Data Science Research Institute. Before these roles, he worked as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Executive Director of the Goldring Institute of International Education at the Freeman School of Business, Tulane University, where he achieved tenure and was awarded an endowed professorship.
Dr. Tan graduated from the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida, specializing in Operations Management and Information Systems. His research primarily focuses on artificial intelligence and the digital economy. He has extensive work experience and has collaborated with numerous leading businesses in China and the USA. Additionally, Professor Tan has significant teaching experience in data analysis and has been awarded the Freeman School of Business's Teacher of the Year.
Professor Tan has published more than 20 papers in top-ranked management and business journals recognized by the Financial Times, including Management Science, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Production and Operations Management, Manufacturing & Operations Management, and Human Relations. Professor Tan has also received several best paper awards. Currently, he serves as a Senior Editor for Production and Operations Management (FT 50), Department Editor for the Decision Sciences Journal, Associate Editor for Information & Management, and Editorial Board Member for Information Systems Research, Journal of Operations Management, and Journal of Management Information Systems.
In 2019, Professor Tan was named one of the world's Top 40 Business School Professors Under 40 by Poets & Quants and received an Early Career Achievement Award from the Decision Science Institute. In 2022, he was awarded the Sandy Slaughter Career Achievement Award by INFORMS Information Systems Society for his contributions to the information systems field. He is also the winner of Outstanding Case Writer awarded by The Case Centre Awars and Competitions 2025 under the hot topic of 'Generative AI, business and society'.
In his spare time, Professor Tan enjoys collecting art and historical manuscripts.
