CEIBS Hosts MBA 2023 Scholarship Conferment Ceremony
October 12, 2021. Shanghai – Scholarship recipients, staff, alumni and company representatives joined school leadership today for the MBA scholarship conferment ceremony at CEIBS Shanghai Campus.
In addition to directly awarding CEIBS’ own scholarships, fellowships and various education funds, representatives were also invited from Air Liquide, DDI Shanghai Town & Country Club, Emerson, L.Y. Global, TSI and DSM to personally present company-sponsored scholarships to this year’s recipients.
CEIBS Vice President and Co-Dean Weijiong Zhang opened the event.
“I’m deeply impressed and proud of the students sat in front of me today. These scholarship are based on your past achievements, but if you really want to prove yourselves worthy of this honour, you have to prove it to us, yourself and the CEIBS community from this day forth,” he said.
President and CEO of Air Liquide China Nicolas Poirot then offered a keynote speech in which he congratulated the inaugural recipients of the Air Liquide Scholarships, Yue Yi and Eleni Petri.
“CEIBS has the best teachers and students from the world, with very diverse backgrounds and expertise, representing the first-class brain power that Air Liquide wants to cooperate with. More than anything, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that openness and cooperation – rather than isolation and confrontation – are the right way to address the challenges facing human beings, like the public health crisis, aging population, climate change and energy transition,” he said.
Air Liquide joined L.Y. Global, TSI and DSM as new sponsors of MBA scholarships this year, highlighting the positive trend of generosity from Chinese companies, multinationals and alumni giving back to the school.
CEIBS Merit Scholarship winner Shirley Cui also spoke and conveyed her gratitude and excitement on behalf of her MBA 2023 classmates.
“Scholarships represent starting points and future possibilities. They encourage us to put our best foot forward during and after MBA life. Just yesterday we marked our very first day of the coming 16 months, a period full of brand-new choices. Some may be simple, like choosing which activities to attend, which electives to take, or which clubs to join. Some may be more complex, like choosing an industry, function or even our future workstyle and lifestyle. CEIBS opens up a marvelous array of new and promising choices for us, especially in this VUCA era,” she said.
Following the conferment of the scholarships, CEIBS Associate Dean and MBA Programme Director Professor Shameen Prashantham shared his closing remarks.
“When we trace the origins of the word ‘scholarship’ back to its Greek routes, we will come across the word scholastes which means ‘one who lives at ease.’ It’s about much more than hitting the books. It’s about learning to live and live abundantly. CEIBS is an incredible platform that can connect talent, like yourselves, with companies, both Chinese and international, that are pursuing excellence. So, I wish you all the best on your ventures ahead,” he said.
