September 8, 2021. Shanghai – A new facility launched by CEIBS will boost the development of Shanghai as a smart city and contribute to improving public healthcare in China and beyond, according to CEIBS President Wang Hong.

The inauguration ceremony for the CEIBS Research Centre for Smart Healthcare saw dignitaries from academia and healthcare came together at our Shanghai campus today to witness a new chapter in school’s contribution to wider society.

The centre aims to link top scholars and entrepreneurs to explore the smart healthcare field and use cutting-edge academic research to promote the development of the medical and health industry in China.

In a keynote speech, Prof. Wang Hong stated that health and medical care exist together and that the importance of the health industry was self-evident.

“I sincerely hope that the CEIBS Research Centre for Smart Healthcare will contribute to the development of the health industry and the improvement of people’s health by promoting internal exchanges and sharing in the industry,” she added.

Prof. Wang also explained that smart medical care was an important contributor to the digital economy and an essential component of Shanghai’s broader transformation into a smart city where digitisation will become an integral aspect of everyday life.

She also emphasised that a focus on health is an important part of fulfilling CEIBS’ role as a responsible international business school, and its commitment to continuous academic innovation.

The inauguration event was chaired by Shanghai Children’s Hospital Dean and Professor Yu Guangjun. He said the research centre will mainly focus on areas such as artificial intelligence and digital technology, as well as both western and Chinese medicine.

“The CEIBS Research Centre for Smart Healthcare is a worthy project and a meaningful proposition which combines research with applied knowledge,” he said.

Prof. Yu explained that a sense of responsibility was essential to completing the mission of the new facility and that only by way of a clear mission would the creation of knowledge come about.

“We will join hands with prestigious business schools at home and abroad to harness the power of professional medical knowledge and create great achievements,” he added.

A donation ceremony was also held to mark the contributions of some 16 alumni companies and individuals who gave a total of 4.7 million RMB to support the research and activities of the institute.

These donors have also formed a committee which will support the planning of courses for the institute and supporting students’ entrepreneurship and innovation efforts.
