Yang, Wei
Associate Professor of Management, CEIBS
Professor Wei Yang is an Associate Professor of Management at the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), specializing in AI strategy, corporate AI transformation, and innovation ecosystems. She was the first professor at CEIBS to offer courses on AI and business strategy, and has taught the most courses in this area at the school. To date, she has delivered over 100 AI-related lectures and events for corporate executives.
Professor Yang’s research focuses on how artificial intelligence reshapes competitive dynamics and innovation models. Her core research areas include AI-driven strategic transformation, innovation mechanisms in open-source ecosystems, digital platform competition and ecosystem development, as well as entrepreneurship and venture capital in the context of technological change. She is particularly interested in how firms can achieve strategic breakthroughs through interactions with competitors, partners, users, and investors amid the AI wave. To date, eight of her papers have been published or accepted for publication in leading UTD24 and FT50 journals, including Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Research Policy, and Journal of Operations Management. Among these, two sole-authored papers have been published or accepted in 2025, addressing AI and open-source innovation, respectively.
Professor Yang’s course, AI and Corporate Transformation: Strategy, Business, and Organization, follows a progressive structure of “technological capability → business impact → organizational implementation → strategic simulation.” It covers core modules such as machine learning and operational decision-making, deep learning and product re-engineering, large language models and the transformation of knowledge work, multi-agent systems and process automation, as well as AI-driven organizational upgrading and competitive strategy. The course helps managers build a systematic framework from technical understanding to strategic decision-making. It also features a simulation-based strategic exercise driven by AI and economic models, allowing participants to integrate technical judgment, organizational analysis, and strategic choices. Professor Yang has amassed over 40 firsthand case studies on AI transformation and entrepreneurship among Chinese and international companies, spanning manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, semiconductors, internet, finance, and other industries.
In terms of corporate collaboration, Professor Yang has worked closely with nearly twenty leading companies, including Apple China, Yutong Bus, COMAC, CATL, CNOOC, Ping An Life Insurance, China Merchants Group, Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Philips, SAP Labs China, and Novo Nordisk.
Professor Yang is also an active practitioner of AI technology. She uses AI programming to develop teaching tools and research automation workflows, and is currently conducting cutting-edge academic research on strategic decision-making using AI agent-based simulation.
Professor Yang earned her Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in management from the University of Texas at Austin. She also holds a Master’s degree in finance from the University of Hong Kong and a Master’s degree in management from Peking University. Before joining CEIBS, she was an Assistant Professor of Management at George Mason University. In academic service, she serves on the editorial board or as an associate editor for leading international journals such as Organization Science, Strategy Science, and Management and Organization Review, and is an ad hoc reviewer for journals including Strategic Management Journal and Management Science.
