President Li Mingjun Awarded National Commemorative Medal
September 29, 2019. Shanghai – A special ceremony was held today to congratulate CEIBS President Li Mingjun for being named a recipient of the National Commemorative Medal. Chen Hui, a Shanghai Municipality representative and Director of the Organisation and Personnel Division of the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office, delivered the medal to CEIBS’ Shanghai campus. Ms. Helen Xu, Assistant President, Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee and Director of the Dean’s Office and Ms. Cynthia Liu, Assistant Director of President’s Office also participated in the award ceremony.
The medal is in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and was jointly issued by the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the State Council and the Central Military Commission of the People’s Republic of China. The National Commemorative Medal recognises recipients’ outstanding contributions to the People’s Republic of China and to the development of socialist modernisation.
Professor Li thanked Director Chen for the delivery of the medal, adding that the honour would inspire and motivate him to further dedicate himself to the mission of the country and the party. He also expressed on behalf of CEIBS his appreciation to the Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office for its unwavering support of the school.
Between 2008 and 2015, Prof. Li served as Director of the Foreign Affairs Office, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipality and President of the Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. During his tenure there, the Foreign Affairs Office hosted many large-scale events and was recognised by the government numerous times for its achievements. In addition, Prof. Li also played a significant role in the success of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
In 2015, the Shanghai Municipal Government appointed Prof. Li as CEIBS President. Through the joint efforts of school leadership and the hard work of faculty and staff, CEIBS has made great progress in teaching and research, innovation, and internationalisation. In 2019, both the MBA and Global EMBA programmes reached a record high of #5 in the Financial Times’ global rankings. This is the highest ranking ever achieved by an Asian business school, and stands as a notable achievement on the occasion of both the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the founding of CEIBS.
