The implementation of the National Strategy of “One Belt One Road Initiative” has encouraged more and more Chinese enterprises to go abroad, investing in foreign countries and carrying out international trade and business activities. The cross-border investment and trade activities between China and the world have become more frequent. Meanwhile, international trade and investment disputes are on the rise. International arbitration is one of the main methods of international disputes resolution. How Chinese enterprises may exploit the advantages of arbitration in order to avoid and reduce risks, how to deal with various disputes and to serve thestrategy “One Belt One Road Initiative” have been a hot topic.
Compared with litigation and other dispute resolution options, the arbitration has the advantages, such as high-level autonomy, efficiency, strong professional and confidentiality. For the strategy “One Belt One Road Initiative”, the unique strengths of arbitration will be brought into play, to provide a strong legal protection for Chinese enterprises going abroad.
In this 2017 Shanghai International Arbitration Forum, we invite the International Court of Arbitration of International Chamber of Commerce, Singapore International Arbitration Centre, CIETAC, other leading Chinese and international arbitral institutions (Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, etc.), as well as renowned lawyers in China or internationally, outstanding arbitrators and senior executives of state-owned and private conglomerates who have extensive experiences in dispute resolution to share their observations on the new development of international arbitration, how to deal with the risks and disputes arising from international trade and investment, and how to prepare for and participate in international arbitrations.
