Ma, Weihua

Dr. Ma Weihua is a former Executive Director, President and CEO of China Merchants Bank. He has also served concurrently as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Wing Lung Bank, CIGNA & CMC Life Insurance and China Merchants Fund Management. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics. Dr. Ma served as a deputy to the 10th National People’s Congress (NPC), a member of the 11th and the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). He currently holds positions in many organisations, including Chairman of the National Fund for Technology Transfer and Commercialization (NFTTC), Chairman of the China Global Philanthropy Institute, and Chairman of One Foundation. Dr. Ma also teaches as an adjunct professor in several top Chinese universities, including Peking University and Tsinghua University. In March 2019, Dr. Ma was appointed as Chairman of SDG Financing Advisory Committee and the UNDP China Special Advisor. Before joining China Merchants Bank, Dr. Ma served in multiple government positions, including as Director of the Party Office of the CPC Liaoning Committee and CPC Anhui Committee, Deputy Director of the General Office of the PBC, Deputy Director of the Finance and Planning Office of the PBC, as well as Governor of the PBC Hainan Branch and Chief of the SAFE Hainan Branch.
