Shin,Jeong-Yeon Lee and Lin Bian theorized and tested the conditions under which cognitive team diversity is positively related to individual team member creativity. In a study of 316 employees of 68 teams from Chinese companies, the Hierarchical Linear Modeling results showed that a team member's creativity in approaching tasks moderated the relationship between cognitive team diversity and individual creativity. Only when creative self-efficacy was high was cognitive team diversity positively associated with individual creativity. In addition the study found that transformational leadership moderated the relationship, such that cognitive team diversity was positively related to individual creativity only when transformational leadership was high.
