In a shocking series of escalations, last week saw the US government unleash a 145% punitive rate against China. This is, however, only the latest step in a long-brewing war of words and economic tension that began in 2018 during Donald Trump’s first administration, if not before. The current Trump administration's tariff policies are strategically targeted, not only trapping export-focused Chinese enterprises in a dilemma but also intensifying the urgency for China to upgrade its industrial capabilities and self-reliance.

In this article, Lu Jiangning (CEIBS GEMBA 2007), Chairman of Bright Show International Ltd. and a former Ministry of Commerce official posted overseas, provides a detailed analysis of the impact of US tariff increases and the adaptive strategies that Chinese enterprises may adopt.

CEIBS officially welcomed Professor of Economics, Santander Chair in Economics and current Associate Dean and Director of EMBA Programme Zhu Tian as new Vice President and Co-Dean of the school with a five-year tenure during a special handover ceremony on March 28.

On March 22, China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) held a graduation ceremony for the MBA Class of 2025 at its Shanghai campus. A total of 121 graduates from 18 countries and regions around the world gathered to celebrate the momentous occasion. As a gentle spring breeze wafted through the campus, an atmosphere of exuberance and hopeful anticipation for the future filled the air.

Throughout their academic journey, these new graduates have absorbed knowledge in the classroom and honed their skills through practical experience. Now, they embark on a new chapter, determined to emerge as leaders in their respective industries.

As China’s automotive industry continues its rapid ascent on the global stage, CEIBS Shanghai campus today welcomed CEO and Member of the Board of Directors of OPmobility Laurent Favre for an insightful talk on “Chinese Automotive Industry: Opportunities and Challenges in Going Overseas.”

China must cooperate and coordinate with Europe and other countries and regions in the face of shifting global dynamics, with real opportunities still existing for enterprises hoping to expand both into and out of the country provided they do so with strategic insight and careful consideration, according to views shared at the CEIBS Innovation Forum Beijing today.
