About the Lecture

Using a fascinating audio-visual case study about Ichido, an SME that has thrived in the Chinese market, CEIBS Professor of Entrepreneurship Rama Velamuri will give an enlightening talk on how Ichido should expand to achieve further growth.

Many entrepreneurs, once they have overcome the challenge of survival, face the challenge of sustained growth, and the need to transform themselves in order to achieve this. The first step in the transformation process is often the realization that what has succeeded up to that point may not serve them well in the future. Once the entrepreneurs realize this, they need to make a series of decisions with a view to the long term growth goals.

Ichido is typical of such companies that have good products, a functioning business model, and steady revenues and profits. Ichido was founded by Bingrong Tsai, and grew from one bakery outlet in 1999 to 115 outlets in Mainland China by June 2017, with revenues now of more than CNY 300 million. Using this successful case study, Professor Velamuri will illustrate how SMEs can reach that crucial next stage in their development, and what it takes to sustain it.

The lecture will be followed by remarks from Ravi Kant, CEIBS Visiting Leader and former CEO and Vice Chairman of Tata Motors.
