Dr. Gerard Van Schaik had rich experience in the corporate world. During his 34 years with Heineken, the Dutch family business and brewery that became a global brand, his roles spanned various functions in the fields of commerce and finance. He was a member of Heineken’s Executive Board for nearly 20 years and also held the top positions of COO and CEO.
Dr. Van Schaik has also held Chairman-level positions at big name MNCs such as Dutch insurance giant Aegon and the airline company Martinair Holland. His non-executive Board positions span industries such as banking (ABN-AMRO), construction, trading, electronics (Philips Netherlands), FMCG (Sara Lee), pharmaceutical (DSM) and automotive (BCD).
Named President of EFMD in 1995 and Honorary President since 2008, Dr. Van Schaik has been a strong advocate and supporter of CEIBS since his nomination to the school’s Board almost 23 years ago. He is currently Co-Chairman of the CEIBS Board of Directors. In 2016, he was awarded the prestigious Magnolia Award by the City of Shanghai in recognition of his efforts in promoting international exchange and his positive contributions to the city’s economic, social and cultural development.
