Executive Forum: The Future of Production: What Industry 4.0 Entails, Which Challenges Remain

We cordially invite you to attend the CEIBS Executive Forum on September 12, 2019 with Professor and Doctor of Engineering (Dr.-Ing.) Eberhard Abele, Director of Institute for Production Management, Technologies and Machine Tools (PTW), who will give a lecture on The Future of Production: What Industry 4.0 Entails, Which Challenges Remain.
Starting with a look at some of the megatrends we face today, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Abele’s lecture will show how production will change the factory of tomorrow and which challenges we still need to overcome. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Abele will talk about:
- The enhancement of design features and future possibilities for additive manufacturing technologies;
- How digitalisation and machine-learning impacts processes and organisations;
- How energy-efficiency and energy-flexibility are needed in industry in order to avoid global warming;
- Why sustainable and digital factories of tomorrow will require new competence profiles; and,
- How a learning factory founded in Europe by PTW is addresses each one of these areas.
About the Speaker
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Eberhard Abele studied mechanical engineering at Stuttgart University of Technology and is a researcher and department leader at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA. He previously worked for a German automotive supply company as head of production planning and head of special purpose machine tools. At the same company, he also served as technical director and was responsible for factories in Spain and France. In addition, he was in charge of establishing a joint venture with a Chinese automotive supplier. Since 2000, he has served as the director of the Institute of Production Management, Technology and Machine Tools (PTW) at TU Darmstadt. PTW currently works with a staff of about 120 employees in areas such as:
- Additive manufacturing;
- Machine tools and machine tool spindles;
- Optimising energy consumption in machine tools;
- Production organisation and lean management; and,
- Industry 4.0
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Abele has published approximately 200 articles in the fields of additive manufacturing, automation, robotics, machine tools and production management. He is the founder of the learning factories “CIP” and “ETA” at the campus of TU-Darmstadt. He is also a member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) and a CIRP fellow.
