Executive Forum: Global Automotive Industry: Necessary Strategies for Competing in Fragmented Markets

Join us for a CEIBS Executive Forum on March 18, 2026, with Dr. Anning Chen, former President and CEO of Ford Motor Company Greater China, who will give a keynote speech on the theme of Global Automotive Industry: Necessary Strategies for Competing in Fragmented Markets.
About this Event
For decades, the automotive industry operated under the predictable banner of globalisation. China-produced products—from components to full vehicle lineups for both domestic and Western brands—flowed relatively freely into global markets. Today, the industry is witnessing a dramatic shift toward regionalisation, characterised by protected markets, geopolitical frictions, and a fragmented regulatory landscape.
While barriers to entry and competition have fundamentally changed, many business leaders are still attempting to solve 2026 problems with a 2016 playbook. At this Executive Forum, Dr. Chen will address the widening gap between the new reality of market protections and the traditional strategic paradigms being utilised by many businesses.
This forum will offer industry leaders and business owners unique perspectives on developing sustainable and collaborative strategies within a complex global environment. As companies from both Eastern and Western markets navigate the challenges of competing in each other’s domestic landscapes while respecting regulations, the discussions here will offer insights into strategic transformation and foster new connections across a divided landscape.
Our speaker

Dr. Anning Chen
Former President & CEO, Ford Motor Company Greater China
Group Vice President, Ford Motor Company (Retired)
Dr. Anning Chen is a distinguished leader and independent thinker in the global automotive industry, adeptly bridging Chinese innovation and Western industrial challenges. He played an important role in China, the world’s largest automotive market, during the rapid development of the country’s automotive industry.
Dr. Chen’s leadership is marked by his unique dual perspective, having served as CEO for both Chery Automobile, a prominent Chinese automaker, and Ford Greater China, an important market of an iconic American automotive company. His ability to implement effective strategies in dynamic business environments led to the transformation of an indigenous manufacturer into a global Chinese brand, and guided the turnaround of an American auto company in China amid challenges posed by historic disruptions, driven by the pandemic and the changing rules of international trade.
Today, as the auto industry faces unprecedented regionalisation and further geopolitical change, Dr. Chen stands out as a vital thought leader for his ability to bridge Eastern and Western perspectives and challenge conventional wisdom.
Dr. Chen holds a PhD in Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business.
