CEIBS Insights | The 6th Europe Forum. France
Introduction
As we move into the second half of 2020, there is a pressing need to bring the battered global economy back to life. As the first major country worldwide to emerge from the shadow of COVID-19, China has announced it will inject trillions of yuan to reboot its economy. The initiative intends to enable industrial recovery and accelerate the establishment of a “dual circulation” development pattern, in which the domestic economy plays a central role, and China’s export economy a supplemental one. Meanwhile, after more than a decade of development, China’s Internet infrastructure has matured to support brand new digital business models, such as unmanned supermarkets, front distribution centres (FDC), and distance education, to give China’s economy unprecedented resilience and vitality. With the global economic landscape undergoing great change, Chinese and French business can combine their strengths and experience to kick-start economic recovery and put both countries back on track towards growth.
After the pandemic, what fresh innovations can France, the world’s second largest exporter of agricultural products, share? Which economic fields will find favour with governments and capital investors on both sides? And what opportunities and challenges will they face in reinvigorating the economy? In December 2020, decision-makers, entrepreneurs and scholars will discuss all these issues in-depth to help chart a roadmap for China and France to work together for the benefit of global economic recovery.
