CHEN Kaixian, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Fellow and Director of the Academic Degrees Committee of the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), CAS, Professor and Director of the Academic Committee of the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM), has been engaged in new drugs development and drug design research. Currently, he serves as chairman of the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology, Deputy Chief Specialist of the General Expert Team on the National Science and Technology Major Project “Innovative Drug Research and Development”, Deputy Director of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission, Chairman of the supervisory board of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, Vice President of the China Association of Chinese Medicine, and Editor in Chief of journals such as Progress in Pharmaceutical Sciences. He once served as Head of the SIMM, CAS (1996 - 2004), and President of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Mar. 2005 – Feb. 2014). He has won many titles and awards, such as “Top Ten Science and Technology Elites of Shanghai”, Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, the 1st National Award for Excellence in S&T Innovation, and 2nd class prize of National Technology Invention Awards.
