Callarman, Thomas E.
Professor Emeritus of Operations Management, CEIBS
Thomas E. Callarman is Professor Emeritus of Operations Management, and former Director of CEIBS Centre for Automotive Research and Co-Director of the Centre for Innovations in Supply Chains and Services at China Europe International Business School (CEIBS). He spent the previous twenty-five years at Arizona State University where he held several academic and administrative positions. During his last five years at Arizona State, Dr Callarman served as the Director of the Institute for Manufacturing Enterprise Systems while serving as Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management in the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University (ASU). Previously he was Associate Dean for Student Support Services in the Graduate College at ASU. His disciplinary research interests are in process analysis and improvement in manufacturing, as well as design and modelling of supply networks, particularly in the electronics industry. He has published in a number of the top journals in his field, including Decisions Sciences, the Academy of Management Review, the European Journal of Operational Research, the International Journal of Operations and Production Management, and others.
Professor Callarman has received several research grants for the National Science Foundation, Intel Research Council and IBM Research Council to pursue modelling work in operations management and supply network integration. During his career, he has consulted with companies in the Fortune 500 – such as Motorola, Intel, Douglas Aircraft – in the areas of inventory management, lean manufacturing, lean supply chain and supply chain management with companies such as Motorola, Intel, Douglas Aircraft, etc. He has also worked with universities and corporations in Europe and Asia.
Dr. Callarman is certified by the Institute for Supply Management as a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M., lifetime) and by the American Production and Inventory Control Society as a Certified Production and Inventory Manager, at the Fellow level (CFPIM). Dr. Callarman’s Ph.D. is from the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University. He has held numerous leadership positions in professional organisations such as the Decision Sciences Institute, where he is a Past-President, and the Institute for Supply Management, where he is Past-Chair of the Materials Management Group.
