CEIBS Insights | The 6th Europe Forum. UK
Introduction
COVID-19 has disrupted the established order of the business world in 2020. As the pandemic drags on, labour shortages, rising logistics costs, fractured supply chains, and shrinking overseas business have come to characterise the “new normal”. Growing challenges facing the economy have prompted many business managers to cast their eyes on the financial sector – especially on global asset allocation.
In stark contrast to the overall sluggish economy, the international capital market has given birth to a plethora of new growth models in the past year, with considerable investment from conventional industries pouring into emerging sectors such as digital technology, biomedicine, and green technology. Environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing has transformed the financial derivatives market and digital technology now acts more like a regulator than an accelerator for financial innovation. In the face of the current crisis, China and the UK – two financial giants – offer some of the best places to explore a balance of innovation and risk control for financial capital, information technology and policy evolution. Despite the turbulent global landscape, the Chinese government reiterated the importance of globalisation and its commitment to opening-up, and Chinese companies have continued to grow thanks to booming e-commerce and the effective containment of the coronavirus pandemic in China. Meanwhile, London, a well-established financial centre, has emerged as a pioneer in the field of fintech. Against the backdrop of the UK’s sophisticated financial infrastructure and rich innovation experience and China’s large demand in its capital market, CEIBS will hold the 6th London Forum to discuss how the two sides can collaborate in the financial sector, especially as regards asset management.
The economy generates earnings and cash flow which will ultimately be reinvested in the economy. So, how can we ward off risks and tide over crises through asset management? How can we keep a low profile and develop flexible market strategies to stand strong against fluctuations? And, how can we identify opportunities to facilitate business transformation? This online forum will look into these questions to explore potential China-UK collaboration in asset management. Entrepreneurs, business managers, and policy makers from both sides will exchange ideas and draw insights into effective approaches to overcoming crises, and guest speakers will discuss new models for enterprise asset allocation, and shed light on the new global economic order that will shape the future.
