Enabling the Future: Ushering in a New Era for the Digital Economy in China and Germany
The world is being transformed by a digital revolution. The internet and big data are driving innovation across a spectrum of industries. It is imperative, therefore, for companies – and countries – to grasp opportunities so as to gain a first-mover advantage in the digital age.
In China, the digital economy has become a significant driver of the economy and the country is leading the world in digital transformation. In the manufacturing field, Chinese brands such as Lenovo, Haier and Huawei are evolving rapidly. In terms of lifestyle services, Alipay, bike-sharing, and online shopping have become China’s new calling cards. In today’s digital era, a growing number of Chinese companies have made their mark in the fields of mobile internet, O2O, Internet of Things, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. Along with the rapid digital transformation and iteration of business models, Chinese enterprises are reshaping the global business landscape.
Meanwhile the digital revolution has also transformed the German economy, where around 40% of companies have rolled out new digital products and services while 57% are adjusting their product mixes. The German government has unveiled its Digital Strategy 2025 to bring the country into the digital era at a faster pace. It is critical for German companies to gain insights into the trends, prospects, opportunities and challenges for digital transformation. Considering its increasingly close ties with China, Germany can draw valuable lessons from China’s digital transformation. In today’s globalized world, it is an opportunity and a shared goal for the two sides to explore new possibilities for cooperation in technology, market, and business models in order to enable robust economic growth in both countries.
What are the latest trends and prospects for digital transformation in China? How have Chinese companies charted a course for their digital transformation? What lessons can Germany draw from the transformation? How will the two countries bring their own digital advantages into full play to boost bilateral cooperation? How will this cooperation enhance the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, now in its 15th year? Senior government officials, experts and entrepreneurs from China and Germany will present their cases on Chinese and German companies’ digital transformation and share their views on the business trends, prospects and opportunities – as well as the way forward.
