CEIBS Rises to 21st in The Case Centre Impact Index 2024
On November 7, 2024, The Case Centre released its 2024 Impact Index, ranking the top 50 institutions worldwide based on the reach and influence of their case writing. Notably, CEIBS rose five places from the previous year, claiming the 21st spot and upholding its position as the only business school from mainland China to be featured in the ranking.
The Impact Index is compiled using The Case Centre's usage data from the previous academic year (September 1 – August 31). To reflect the global reach and impact of an organization's case writing, the index metrics include how many of their cases have been adopted, by how many organizations, in how many countries, and how many individual students have been taught with the cases. All organizations that have published at least one case with The Case Centre during the previous academic year are eligible. In 2024, the Top 50 were taken from 452 eligible schools.
CEIBS President Wang Hong acknowledged the school's progress in "The Case Centre Impact Index" ranking as a tribute to its 30th anniversary. Since its inception, the school has emphasized case development and teaching, integral to its high-quality educational practices. Over time, CEIBS has transitioned from using Western case studies to creating its own localized cases. These cases are tailored to China's business environment, focusing on specific issues and decision-making scenarios unique to the Chinese context. Through the distribution channels of five leading global case libraries, CEIBS cases have been adopted by over 1,100 schools in more than 80 countries and regions. Despite these achievements, CEIBS remains committed to developing China-themed cases to amplify the country's voice on the global stage.
Frank Bournois, Vice President and Dean of CEIBS, emphasizes the significance of using the case method in business education. In today's fast-evolving business landscape, management knowledge can quickly become outdated, and case studies offer an effective way to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Chinese companies' rapid growth and innovative management practices provide a wealth of resources for global management education. CEIBS is dedicated to conducting case studies aligned with its mission of "China Depth, Global Breadth," ensuring that its teaching remains current while contributing pioneering Chinese management knowledge and practical experience to the global education community.
Prof. Chen Shimin, Associate Dean and Director of the Case Center at CEIBS, expressed pride in this accomplishment, thanking The Case Centre for offering a platform where China-focused cases can stand out and showcase their strengths. Today, the development and distribution of CEIBS cases are essential to the school's competitive edge. Through collaborations with renowned international case repositories, including The Case Centre, Harvard Business Publishing, and Ivey Publishing, and by consistently earning plaudits in international case writing competitions, CEIBS cases have gained influence both in China and internationally. These successes stem from the school's strong support, the team's unwavering commitment, and the international community's growing interest in China's development. With a mission to "focus on management issues in the Chinese business context, adhere to international standards, and support classroom teaching," CEIBS remains steadfast in advancing global management education through high-quality China-themed cases.
As a leading distributor of business school cases globally, The Case Centre is committed to promoting the case method worldwide. To encourage more institutions to embrace the case method, it aims to enhance case impact through various initiatives, including its recognition portfolio of bestselling and classic cases, competitions, awards, bestselling case author lists, the Impact Index, and case workshops and webinars.
Since 1996, CEIBS has partnered with The Case Centre, with over 530 CEIBS cases published by October 2024. The CEIBS Case Center, founded in 2001, works with faculty to develop cases for high-quality teaching and is dedicated to promoting the case method in management education. It also operates ChinaCases.Org, supported by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission.
