Abstract:
While blatant racism and sexism have become less tolerated in Western workplaces, subtle forms of discrimination remain pervasive, particularly against individuals with intersecting marginalised identities, with more debilitating effects on employee wellbeing. In this qualitative multi-method study comprising two studies – a qualitative meta-synthesis (QMS) and a Netnography incorporating Structural Topic Modelling, we explore the unique workplace experiences of GRM, focusing on the interplay of race- and gender-based bias. We develop a novel taxonomy of gendered racial microaggressions and propose an integrated framework capturing their psychological impact and coping mechanism employed. The study offers critical insights for diversity, equity, inclusion and employee wellbeing research and practice.
