Diefendorff, James M.

Professor of Industrial/Organizational Psychology, University of Akron

Dr. James M. Diefendorff is a Professor of Industrial/Organizational Psychology at The University of Akron. Prior to joining the faculty at The University of Akron, Dr. Diefendorff served on the faculty in the Psychology Department at Louisiana State University and in the Business School at The University of Colorado at Denver.

Dr. James M. Diefendorff graduated from The University of Akron with Ph.D. and M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. His research interests focus on self-regulatory process, work motivation, emotional labor, job satisfaction and performance, etc. Abundant of his papers have been published in the leading journals including Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Academy of Management Journal, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Social Science and Medicine, Organizational Research Methods, etc. Dr. Diefendorff also presented a lot at world-leading conference regarding the topic of emotional labor, emotion regulation, social and personality psychology, clinical psychology, organizational psychology. Dr. Diefendorff is a fellow of the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology and is currently or has been on the editorial boards of Journal of Applied Psychology, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and Journal of Business and Psychology.

Dr. Diefendorff received numerous fellowships, grants and awards from academic fields including National Science Foundation Grant Fund, Wharton-Singapore Management University Research Center Grant Fund, Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology Fellow award. Besides academic experience, Dr. Diefendorff also has several practical applied psychology experiences. He was the independent consultant of SSA, LLC from 2003 to 2006 and served as Board member of Greater Baton Rouge Community Clinic from 2002 to 2004.
