MBA2017 Career Report

August 25, 2017. Shanghai - The CEIBS MBA Office today released its annual MBA Career Report. This year’s highlights include:

• 880 positions were made available through the school's Career Development Centre (CDC) from 320 companies during the 2016-2017 recruitment season;
• Within three months of graduation, 94.5% of CEIBS MBA graduates reported having received at least one offer, with 92.0% accepting;
• 81.2% achieved career switches in industry, function or both;
• The average annual salary increase is 108.7%, with over 60% of graduates within the RMB 300,000 to 600,000 range;
• Financial Services, Technology and Manufacturing represented the top three industries that attracted graduates.

More than 100 companies who have long-term partnerships with CEIBS hired graduates from the MBA Class of 2017, including 3M, AB InBev, Alibaba, Amazon, AztraZeneca, Bayer, Carrefour, Cathay Capital, China Renaissance Securities, Danaher, Eli Lilly, GE, Guotai Junan Securities, Huawei, Intel, Legend Capital, McKinsey & Company, Microsoft, Roland Berger, Share Capital, SBCVC and Shanghai Pharma. This year foreign-owned enterprises recruited the majority of MBA graduates (54%) compared to MBA Class of 2016, which had seen recruiters from Chinese private enterprises surpass their foreign counterparts.

As China’s economy has developed, so has the demand for high-caliber business professionals. This year saw the CDC launch the ‘Localization Programme for International Talents’ and organize the first local career trek to Nanjing & Changzhou specifically for international students in order to highlight the unique value that international MBA talents can bring to local recruiters.
In terms of location, 78.1% of the international students who have accepted offers have been successfully placed in the Asia Pacific region, with 50% remaining in mainland China. In the meantime, thanks to further efforts made to expand CEIBS “Global Breadth”, the international placement rate has increased to 14%, covering more countries and regions in APAC, Europe, and North and South America.

Despite the challenging global job market, there have been significant improvements in several areas related to graduates’ career progress. CEIBS MBA Programme has moved up to #11 in the Financial Times 2017 ranking of global business schools, regaining its position as # 1 in Asia. Thanks to the efforts and initiatives launched by the CDC, CEIBS graduates continue to be amongst those with the highest salary increase when compared to pre-MBA levels; ranked No. 4 globally by the Financial Times for salary percentage increase. Meanwhile, there has also been a 5-position increase in the ranking for the MBA target achievements and a 3-position increase in the ranking for the MBA career development, both reflecting the high satisfaction levels amongst our graduates.

These initiatives are complemented by strong support from the CEIBS Career Development Centre (CDC), which regularly organizes activities that facilitate employment opportunities for MBA students. Recent activities have included participation in the IESE job fair and reciprocity collaborations with Harvard, INSEAD, LBS, IESE and IE which are now in their fifth year.
