CEIBS Global EMBA Master Class - Suzhou - How Start-Ups can ‘Dance with Elephants’: New Venture Internationalisation

In this exclusive lecture Associate Professor of International Business & Strategy Shameen Prashantham, will look at the opportunities and challenges that new ventures face when operating on the international stage. Given their resource constraints, international new ventures face distinct challenges. Using inspiring case studies from small ventures such as Centurion, Testin and InMobi, Dr. Prashantham looks at how new ventures can succeed at internationalizing with a limited resource base. He examines how smaller companies can establish and exploit competitive advantage through network-based strategies that leverage opportunities created by the international dimension of their business.

In this real Executive MBA classroom experience, you will learn:

  • The value to small ventures of partnering with ‘elephants’;
  • The difference between market-specific knowledge and market-neutral knowledge;
  • How new ventures can innovate to internationalise cost-effectively;
  • How firms lacking in resources can leverage international networks to compensate;
  • How to manage and balance international growth.
