CEIBS Professors Speak on “Creating and Sustaining an Entrepreneurial Culture”

As part of the World Economic Forum in Dalian from September 14 to 16, CEIBS hosted an “IdeasLab” roundtable discussion featuring presentations from three top professors on the topic, “Creating and Sustaining an Entrepreneurial Culture”. CEIBS Vice President and Dean John A Quelch, Professor of Entrepreneurship Rama Velamuri, and Associate Professor of Management Han Jian each delivered provocative talks to an audience of elite policymakers, business executives, and thought leaders.

The workshop was moderated by leading global business consultant, best-selling author and renowned scholar Richard Pascale, who ensured that the CEIBS professors used the demanding WEF IdeasLab format: speaking no longer than 5 minutes, without PowerPoint but using a set of slides shown at a rapid pace. Each presentation was followed by an interactive Q&A, a group brainstorming session, and final sharing of key findings and revelations.

Inflation is back!

Economics Professor and Director of the German Centre of Banking and Finance at the China Europe International Business School Horst Loechel tackles the issue of global inflation.

"In Europe, we had an inflation rate in December of 2.2%, which is higher than the benchmark rate, or inflation goal, set by the European central bank. Given that Europe is a low growth area with a growth rate of 1.5% stagflation could become an issue. In any case, inflation is back."

China's inflation lower than expected for January

China's CPI for January came in at 4.9%, a shade under the forecasted figure of 5%. This was the first set of figures released since the government adjusted the CPI weights to put more emphasis on rent and less on food.  CEIBS Professor of Economics and Finance and Department Chair for Economics and Decision Sciences, Dr Xu Bin, examines what this calculation change means -- in real terms.
