September 2, 2014. Shanghai – Renowned medical professionals and an entrepreneur shared their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities in China’s healthcare sector with CEIBS MBA students and alumni. Tonight’s discussion session was organized by the CEIBS MBA 2016 class, and was especially timely in light of the announcement last week that the government will begin a pilot programme that allows foreign investors to set up private hospitals in China. Director of the CEIBS Centre for Healthcare Management and Policy Professor John Cai moderated the discussion.

The speakers were:
-Dr. Zhang Qiang, Chief Vascular Surgeon at Shanghai United Family Hospital and WorldPath Clinic International;
- Dr. Song Donglei, Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery at Fudan University’s Huashan Hospital and Director of the Cerebral Vascular Centre and President of Deji Hospital and the Shanghai Neuro-Medical Centre;
- Ms. Jennifer Xu, Founder & CEO of Greenapple, a mobile app that connects doctors and patients in China, and Regional Director of the Havard Business School Healthcare Alumni Association and Vice President of the Harvard Business School Shanghai Alumni Club.

The event gave students and alumni a deeper understanding of the healthcare sector, and the career opportunities it has to offer. Both Dr. Zhang and Dr. Song projected that opportunities will be plentiful in the next few years, as China begins implementing long-discussed reforms. The students also appreciated the perspective of Ms. Xu, who shared advice for starting a business. She also gave current students some suggestions for getting the most out of their MBA study.
