September 6, 2016. Shanghai – Vice Chairman of the CEIBS Board, Mr. Gerard Van Schaik was today presented with the prestigious Magnolia Award, making him the fifth member of the CEIBS community to receive this honour. The award was inaugurated by the Shanghai Municipal Government in 1989 in recognition of Shanghai-based international expats’ efforts in promoting international exchange and their positive contributions to the city’s economic, social and cultural development.

Born in Holland, Mr. Van Schaik has rich experience in the corporate world. He has held Chairman-level positions at big name MNCs such as Heineken, the Dutch insurance giant Aegon, and Martinair Holland. Named President of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) in 1995 and Honorary President since 2008, he has been a strong advocate and supporter of CEIBS since his nomination to the school’s Board almost 22 years ago. He has steadily contributed to the school’s development at a strategic level ever since the Sino-EU joint venture was established in 1994, making a great contribution to its status today as the best b-school in Asia with a global presence across three continents.

“It’s an honour for me to be a testimonial of the school’s establishment and development. The innovative and entrepreneurial spirit CEIBS has demonstrated during its development in the context of a rising China makes it outstanding. I am sure that in the future CEIBS will continue to educate more and more responsible business leaders for China and the rest of the world,” said Mr. Van Schaik ahead of the awards ceremony.
