This talk is based on a four-year programme of research conducted by the CEIBS Centre on China Innovation, sponsored by four major Dutch multinational companies, and is the subject of a new book: George S. Yip and Bruce McKern, China’s Next Strategic Advantage: From Imitation to Innovation, MIT Press (English edition) and CITIC (Chinese edition), 2016.

About The Authors

Prof. George S. Yip

CEIBS Professor of Strategy and Co-Director, Centre on China Innovation; and  Professor of Marketing and Strategy, and Associate Dean – Executive Progammmes, Imperial College Business School; former Dean, Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University

Previously VP and Director of Research & Innovation, Capgemini Consulting; faculty at Harvard, UCLA, Cambridge and London business schools. Books include Strategic Transformation, Managing Global Customers, Asian Advantage and Total Global Strategy. BA and MA in economics, Cambridge University; MBA and doctorate, Harvard Business School.

Prof. Bruce McKern
CEIBS Visiting Professor of International Business and former Co-Director of the CEIBS Centre on China Innovation. Visiting Research Fellow at INSEAD (2015), the Technology & Management Centre for Development, University of Oxford (2015) and The Saïd Business School, University of Oxford (2016).

Educator, corporate advisor and speaker on corporate innovation & strategy. Based in Shanghai for 3 years from 2011. Former Director of the Stanford Sloan Master's Program at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business; President and Professor of Int. Business at the Carnegie Bosch Institute, Carnegie Mellon University; Visiting Fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford. Former dean of two Australian business schools. Author/Editor of 8 books, incl. Transnational Corporations in the Exploitation of Natural Resources and Managing the Global Network Corporation. BE Hons, University of Sydney; Doctorate in International Business, Harvard University.
