Dear alumni:

Happy New Year!

2015, soon to be part of the past, has been a fruitful and unforgettable year for CEIBS. It was the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union, and the first year of CEIBS' 20-year development extension agreement. As a business school jointly founded by both sides, CEIBS was perfectly positioned and equipped to host a forum to mark the 40th anniversary of Sino-European ties. This was an opportunity to join Chinese and foreign experts on international relations in reflecting on the important role the school has played in improving economic, cultural and educational exchanges between China and the EU.

In 2015, the Zurich Campus was officially opened, CEIBS' third campus and a milestone in the history of the school. With this new European base, the school now boasts 5 locations: Shanghai, Beijing, Zurich, Shenzhen, and Africa. With operations across three continents – Asia, Europe and Africa – CEIBS has entered the second phase of its international development. It has taken the leap from solely learning the best of western management theory and practice, to deeper synergy between Chinese and international management education. The school has also moved a step ahead from solely helping Chinese enterprises go global, to spreading China's management thinking and practice to the world. As China's international influence becomes greater, CEIBS' "China Depth, Global Breadth" positioning becomes increasingly important and inspirational. On our own path of globalisation, our vision for the future is clear and unwavering.

As we press ahead towards the future, we take with us our traditional rigor in academic pursuits. In 2015, CEIBS programmes continued to earn international acclaim. Our MBA programme was No. 1 in Asia in the global rankings of Financial Times, Businessweek and Forbes. It was also the only Asian MBA programme to make the Poets & Quants list of business schools to watch in 2016, a list that includes world-renowned business schools such as Wharton and Yale. Meanwhile, the Financial Times ranked CEIBS EMBA and Executive Education programmes among the world's Top 20 and Top 25, respectively; and the new batch of the Finance MBA programme got off to a smooth start with just over 100 students who quickly became a close knit group, studying in harmony. We have been deeply moved by many of our alumni's efforts to give back to the school right after graduation. We also remain firmly committed to helping alumni enterprises grow, launching the "CEIBS Alumni Middle Management Programme" which offers multi-module courses off campus, taking knowledge straight to the doors of our alumni companies. Our accomplishments have not gone unnoticed here at home with Han Zheng, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC and Party Secretary of the CPC Shanghai Branch, hailing CEIBS as a calling card for Shanghai.

In 2015, the concepts of entrepreneurship and innovation became integral to China's national drive, seen as a path to wealth for the common man, social justice, and a stronger nation. CEIBS rose to the occasion with several important initiatives: entrepreneurship is now officially listed as an academic discipline in the MBA programme and the MBA entrepreneurship lab was established; the EMBA Shenzhen Class features entrepreneurship and innovation courses; and in autumn 2015, CEIBS' crowd innovation platform was officially established with its three branches of research institute, incubator and investment platform. Going ahead, it will create an atmosphere and mechanism for innovation, and set up a bridge between business initiatives and capital for alumni through interaction between research and investment. The platform has already signed an agreement that lays out the framework for strategic cooperation with Shanghai Lingang Group, and the general framework is in place for future strategic cooperation with Shanghai Jinqiao Development Area, it is providing service to the development of Shanghai as a scientific innovation centre and to China in its economic transformation.

With all that has been accomplished, CEIBS has never forgotten its social responsibility. The school is committed to the eradication of inequality, providing opportunities for young talented individuals aspiring to join the CEIBS family. In 2015, in collaboration with alumni company Noah Private Wealth Management, the school unveiled the "Di Shui Quan Project", transforming traditionally one-off unsustainable methods of student aid into a system that is renewable and has much wider reach. This project was a first in the business school world. We hope more alumni will become involved and seize this opportunity to help others benefit from a CEIBS education. Gratitude and devotion are important elements of the CEIBS spirit. As they continue to grow their own businesses, our alumni are also steadily supporting, in various ways, the development of CEIBS. They have donated chair professorships, sponsored activities, supported campus development, established a special fund for student entrepreneurship, and more. In 2015 there were 22 classes, 2 alumni chapters, and a total of 1,655 alumni who joined other generous donors to collectively contribute about RMB40 million to CEIBS.

Looking back at 2015, we felt the upcoming rhythm of a new commercial civilisation and, armed with our belief in innovation, played our part in the revitalisation of the Chinese nation and global prosperity. As a source of cutting-edge business management thinking, CEIBS hosted Master Classes and Global Management Forums, providing our alumni with a platform where they could access the most innovative and insightful ideas. Meanwhile CEIBS professors shared their ideas – on national and global issues – at both the Innovation Forum Series and the CEIBS Alumni Forum. All these events complemented the knowledge shared inside our classrooms.

The Chinese New Year is just around the corner. Whether you are strolling around CEIBS Shanghai Campus with its exquisite scenery, walking through the serene courtyards of our Beijing Campus, bathing in the morning light of the quiet Lake Zurich from our European base, or in bustling Accra, Ghana's capital; whether you are busy with your entrepreneurial pursuit, or you are ambling your way to greater corporate development, we hope you share the common dream of the entire CEIBS community. That is to build CEIBS into a four-pronged platform: one on which teaching and research help each other to grow; one on which we explore our own path of internationalisation; one of entrepreneurship and innovation, and one on which our school and our alumni form win-win partnerships.

Thanks for walking alongside us on our way to this shared dream; let's push ahead towards an even brighter future!
