  • Annual China Media Industry Forum 2007

With the birth of the digital age, the advent of the Internet and cell phones has played an incredibly important role in developing new means of broadcasting media.

In the twenty-first century, China is experiencing an unparalleled media revolution, and the emerging media industry is beginning to have a profound impact on the lives of people around the world.

The First Annual China Media Industry Forum, which will be held on Friday, July 06, 2007, presented by CEIBS, in conjunction with CEBIS Media Industry Students Association, will aim at discussing the growth of new media and transformation of media industry; promoting multi-party research; facilitating communication and discussion among governments, the media industry, and academia; marketing institutions and investment organizations; and boosting the development of China’s media industry from “academic” and “business” perspectives. In receiving coverage from leading media and broadcasting agencies, this forum will serve as a prime opportunity for China’s media industry to convene and discuss the pertinent issues of its rapid growth.

    SUB-FORUM I ---- INTERNET DEVELOPMENT AND TREND
Although in 2007 the Internet in China is developing rapidly, there currently exist many obstacles to growth. As a result, a variety of emerging websites are using Web2.0 to challenge these barriers. According to a survey, community websites presently account for 60% of total Internet traffic, but only represent 20% of the industry in terms of earnings. Based on the large quantity of traffic, traditional websites are all consolidating and expanding their business value, while stepping up their Web2.0 efforts. In this complex world, will the industry be limited to the big fish or open to all players? Representatives from traditional and emerging websites as well as selected industry experts will be gathering to discuss the current trends and potential development of the industry.

SUB-FORUM II ---- DEVELOPMENT PROSPECTS OF MOBILE MEDIA
As China is ushered into a new age of media, Marshall McLuhan’s concept that media is information is becoming ever more appropriate. The prevalence of cell phones and readily accessible information of public areas and mass transportation prove to be a great benefit to consumers, but an even greater challenge for providers; as the market develops, competition among providers escalates rapidly. The key to successful mobile media lies in exploiting its unique features and developing distinct business models to turn the broadcasting of information into a profitable venture. Each company is pursuing a different path in order to attain one common goal: popular and profitable mobile media.

SUB-FORUM III ---- INOVATION AND TRANSFORMATION OF TRADITIONAL MEDIA
The winter of traditional media is now over, and the spring is approaching rapidly.  Although traditional industry is not completely obsolete, its transformation into new, popular media is presents a great opportunity for China.  In order for traditional media to succeed, it must employ a combination of both transformation and market innovation. Companies must become integrated in the new market, developing unique products on the cutting-edge of technology. In addition, companies must facilitate growth in all divisions of the industry, from content development to mechanism innovation and to management improvement. If companies can successfully engage in the innovation and transformation of traditional media, the benefits?for consumers and providers?will be unprecedented.

SUB-FORUM IV----NEW MEDIA IN THE EYES OF INVESTORS
New media offers investors the opportunity to finance new ventures and facilitate the development of this burgeoning industry. This sub-forum will attract a number of top-angle investors, renowned venture capital institutions, and eminent strategic investment managers to discuss the importance of capital investment to the growth of the media industry.
