African Banker Readies for Next Stage of His Career

~ Will study with peers from Europe & China

CFO for FBN Bank Ghana Semiu Lamidi is banking on the CEIBS Global EMBA to give him a world view. He is studying with global executives in Zurich.

Accra, Ghana. September 26, 2016 – As Chief Financial Officer of FBN Bank Ghana, Semiu Lamidi has a lot on his shoulders. It is his job to enforce the regulations that keep the bank safe and, by extension, provide peace of mind to its clients, employees and shareholders. He began his career at the international auditing Pernnel Kerr Foster in Nigeria in 1999, and those skills have served him well over the last 16 years as he has steadily risen up the ranks of the banking industry. Now he has his sights set on even bigger goals, so he has enrolled in the China Europe International Business School’s (CEIBS) Global EMBA programme to make sure he is ready.

The programme will see Lamidi and other African nationals studying alongside 28 peers from Europe and China. Participants are about 39 years old, on average; almost 28% are females; 24% have Masters Degrees or above and they have decades of experience in a wide range of industries. There is a mixture of participants from private companies, state-owned enterprises and government. Classes will be available in Accra, Zurich and Shanghai.

“At this stage of my career, I’m looking for an authentic platform that will catapult me to the next stage,” says Lamidi, “one where there is high-quality leadership, a connection to an ivy league of international professionals, exposure to the latest management techniques and a holistic perspective of the business world.” As part of the wider FBN team, he will definitely need a global view. FBN Bank Ghana is a subsidiary of First Bank of Nigeria which, in addition to its Nigeria headquarters, has offices in the UK, Paris, Johannesburg, Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Ghana, Senegal, Gambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, and Guinea.

Lamidi knows that, with his hectic work schedule, the part-time 20-month-long course will be challenging; but he believes he is up to the challenge. After all, it will only require 60 days outside the office. “I just need to rely on my time management skills and make use of every opportunity to balance work with studying,” he says. “This course is important to me so I will give it my utmost dedication and full commitment. I am also looking forward to doing some classes in Shanghai.”
