Business Opportunities in the Czech Republic

November 16, 2017. Shanghai – Adviser to the President of the Czech Republic, President of the New Silk Road Institute Prague, and former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Mr. Jan Kohout was the keynote speaker at an Executive Forum that explored business opportunities in the Czech Republic that was held today at the Shanghai Campus.

Many people may not be aware that may not realize that the Czech Republic a developed, high-income country, with three-fifths of its economy dependent on services. In his keynote speech Mr. Kohout provided the audience with a detailed look at the country and its economy. He said there are opportunities in many sectors, including aviation, energy, and green technologies. He also spoke about some successful examples of cooperation between China and the Czech Republic. 

Mr. Kohout began working at the Institute of International Relations after graduating from the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University in Prague. He entered the diplomatic service and worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Department of International Organisations after the country’s Velvet Revolution in 1990. He has served as Deputy Foreign Minister, Ambassador to the EU, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic from 2002 to 2010. In 2011, he helped to establish the Czech China Chamber of Collaboration and was its President until 2013, when he became the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic for the second time. Since 2014, he has served as the Adviser to the President of the Czech Republic. Mr. Kohout founded the New Silk Road Institute Prague in 2015.
