June 28, 2017. Shanghai – A group of CEIBS faculty got a deeper look at innovation in China’s culture sector today during a visit to BAOKU China, which is located on the 37th floor of the Shanghai Tower. The group enjoyed a tour of the company’s BAOKU Art Center, Shanghai Guanfu Museum, the BAOKU Vault, and Chinese-style Sky Garden. Baoku China Vice President Mr. Howie WU, and Marketing Director Mr. Kim JIN introduced the company’s mission and its innovative business model, as well as the cultural elements they communicate to clients.

Established in 2012, BAOKU operates the art centre and museum, along with a storage facility for valuable items such as art and antiques that has been certified by Underwriter Laboratories (UL). The company uses revenues from its BAOKU Vault storage services to support its nonprofit museum and other cultural initiatives. Professor of Finance and Accounting Oliver RUI noted that BAOKU’s cultural preservation focus is interlinked with one of his classes on Family Enterprise Management, and he said he looked forward to further discussions with the company. Mr. Wu thanked the CEIBS faculty for their constructive ideas and said he looks forward to further discussions.

The company visit was organized by the CEIBS Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to help faculty gain a first-hand understanding of the challenges faced by Chinese companies. In addition to Prof. RUI, the faculty who visited BAOKU China were Associate Dean and FMBA Programme Director, Professor of Finance and Accounting Xinge ZHAO, Adjunct Professor of Economics John CAI, Associate Professor of Finance Frank YU, Distinguished Professor of Management Larry Farh, Visiting Thought Leader, Professor of Management Xiaoping CHEN, and Adjunct Associate Professor of Management from HKUST Patty Farh.
