December 5, 2017. Shanghai – Distinguished Chair Professor of Management ABN AMRO Chair in Management Jiing-Lih (Larry) Farh is among the academics on the 2017 Highly Cited Researchers list compiled by Clarivate Analytics, and is the only mainland China researcher among the 93 in the Economics and Business field to make the list, which totals 3,300 researchers across 21 fields of science and social science.

Inclusion on this prestigious annual list reflects the value of a researcher’s work and the extent to which they have inspired or challenged other researchers around the world. In compiling the list, Clarivate Analytics identifies authors who have consistently won peer approval from international researchers in the form of high citation counts. The 2017 list uses Essential Science Indicators and citation data from the Web of Science totalling over 33,000 journals to review work published and cited over the past decade.

Professor Farh’s current research focusses on management theories as adapted and practiced in Chinese contexts. He is best known for his seminal works on Chinese leadership (paternalistic leadership model), organizational citizenship behaviour in Chinese contexts, guanxi and trust, and how personal values of traditionality and power distance affect employee work behaviour. He has published more than 20 articles in top-tier  management journals, and the book he co-edited on research methodology for Chinese management research is the best-selling methodology textbook in graduate management studies in China.

He co-founded the International Association for Chinese Management Research (IACMR), the largest scholarly association devoted to the promotion of management research in China. Prof. Farh served as IACMR President from 2014 to 2016, and was Programme Chair of its 5th Biennial Conference in Hong Kong in 2012. He is currently on the Advisory Boards for Management and Organization Review and Academy of Management Discoveries, and he received the Citation of Excellence Award from Emerald Management Review in 2013 and 2015.
