CEIBS Welcomes Back Global EMBA Alumni

March 11, 2017. Shanghai – CEIBS Shanghai Campus was the place to be today. More than 150 Global EMBA from 24 countries turned out for this year’s highly-anticipated CEIBS Alumni Reunion. They shared the day with a high-energy group of MBA graduates (see related story); and if that wasn’t enough activity for one day, the current MBA Class were also on hand to host the East Asia Regional Finals of the globally renowned Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) 2017 (see related story).

As with all CEIBS activities, today’s reunion was not just a chance to reconnect and catch up but also an opportunity for continued learning. The day’s guest speaker, Emmy Award-winning writer Scott Halford, lived up to his reputation as an inductee of the US National Speaker Hall of Fame, a lifetime designation that includes recipients such as Ronald Reagan, Colin Powell and Zig Ziglar. Halford presented complex concepts of neuroscience in easily understandable terms that alumni can apply to their professional lives, careers, and personal development. Audience participation was frequent and lively throughout his fascinating lecture on how the brain works. "It is vital to figure out what is important to us and stick to it every day. We can achieve a more fulfilled, successful life and career if we simply understand how to activate the full potential of the brain," said Halford.

During his lecture, he took a comprehensive look at how to keep our brains active and focused, as well as how to thrive professionally and personally. He discussed ideas such as the futility of multi-tasking, sleep patterns, healthy eating, and the effects of stress on the brain.

His audience included some of the 1,700+ global business elites who have graduated from CEIBS Global EMBA since 1996. Over the years, many of these alumni have supported or helped GEMBA to guarantee its sustainable development. Each year, as a sign of gratitude, GEMBA presents awards to a number of alumni who have gone above and beyond to ensure the programme’s and participants’ long-term success. This year, various categories of the 2017 GEMBA Ambassador Award were presented to 13 well-deserved recipients.

The Networking Ambassador Award went to Jun Lee (GEMBA 2013) and David Sancho (GEMBA 2012). This award recognises alumni’s valuable contribution in providing opportunities outside the classroom to build networks, make new connections, socialise, learn from peers, and experience new activities outside of their normal sphere. “CEIBS can provide you with the strong foundation – the skills and knowledge – you need to understand how to compete in this market, how to interact with your customers, and to have deeper overall knowledge about China,” explains Sancho who is Chief Executive, Mango (East Asia & India).

The Public Profile Ambassador Award went to Tony Tang (GEMBA 2011), Jimmie Rasmussen (GEMBA 2012), Rob Hynes (GEMBA 2014), Julie Wong (GEMBA 2011) and Golden Chen (GEMBA 2008).  It recognises alumni who have shown commitment and excellence in promoting CEIBS among the greater public and ensuring the CEIBS Global EMBA remains in the public eye.  “The CEIBS GEMBA was such an invaluable experience: all my bosses and friends say that my business and cultural awareness developed quickly,” says Wong, who is Head of Human Resources (Greater China), Jones Lang LaSalle.

The Business Development Ambassador Award went to Gordon Guo (GEMBA 2012), James Zhu (GEMBA 2010), Avi Fan (GEMBA 2010), Iris Kang (GEMBA 2002) and Nicole Wu (GEMBA 2014). It is given to alumni who have supported the future growth of the programme by recommending new candidates, or acting as referrals when candidates want to know more about the GEMBA.

The Alumni Ambassador Excellence Award, which recognises one alumnus who has excelled in ALL of the areas mentioned above, went to Seoul Min (GEMBA 2010). Min, like previous recipients, is a true champion and ambassador of not only the Global EMBA but also CEIBS as a whole. “CEIBS is a great school. I have known the entire Global EMBA team for a long time,” says the Managing Partner, NxtAsia Consulting. “They are great role models for me, and also the reason why I am so active. I am very happy that I can contribute to the development of the programme. I will try my best to do whatever I can.”
