Top post an honor, says chairman

FENG Guoqin, vice mayor of Shanghai, was elected chairman of the city's top political advisory body yesterday.

Feng, 60, replaced Jiang Yiren, chairman of the 10th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Shanghai Committee, at the first plenary session of the 11th CPPCC Shanghai.

"The new position is an honorable job with great responsibilities," Feng said after the six-day annual session closed yesterday morning.

"I'll pass on the CPPCC's tradition and try my best to boost Shanghai's development and improve the lives of its residents," he said.

The committee's seven vice chairmen and two vice chairwomen were also elected. They are:

Zhu Xiaoming, vice director of the Shanghai People's Congress Standing Committee and president of the China Europe International Business School;

Zhou Taitong, vice mayor;

Wang Xinkui, chairman of the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce and president of the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade. Wang is the only vice chairman of the 10th CPPCC Shanghai Committee re-elected to a new term.

Li Liangyuan, vice secretary general of the city government;

Qian Jinglin, Party Secretary of Huangpu District;

Wu Youying, chairwoman of the China Zhi Gong Dang Shanghai Committee;

Zhou Hanmin, chairman of the China Democratic National Construction Association's Shanghai Committee and vice director of the Shanghai World Expo Coordination Bureau;

Cai Wei, chairman of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party's Shanghai Committee and vice director of the Shanghai Health Bureau;

Gao Xiaomei, Shanghai committee chairwoman of the Revolutionary Committee of Chinese Kuomintang and vice director of Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration.
