CEIBS 2nd Hong Kong Forum 2017

As the third wave of globalization driven by new technology and business innovation is sweeping across the world, the global economy has never been more interconnected, vibrant and promising than it is today. Globalization has provided companies in Mainland China and Hong Kong with more opportunities for innovation and cooperation. The two sides need to figure out how to  ride the wave of economic globalization and technological progress together so as to steal a march on competitors.

Considering the new normal for the Chinese economy, the central government is pushing forward integration and interaction of factors of innovation. The new ideas, such as “mass entrepreneurship and innovation” and “Internet plus”, have caught on in the business community. A new breed of high-tech startups and business enterprises are mushrooming in the vast and dynamic mainland market. In proximity to the mainland, Hong Kong has emerged as a famous financial and trading center in Asia and the world at large, thanks to the “One Country, Two Systems” policy, a well-established capital market, an open trade and investment climate, and the free flow of information and talent. Overwhelmingly dependent on a single industry, however, Hong Kong has been caught in a bind as its industrial advantages have waned over the past few years. It is imperative for Hong Kong to step up economic transition and industrial upgrade so as to better fit into China’s blueprint for social and economic development. As the mainland market is known for abundant capital and infinite vitality, while Hong Kong for its well-proven business operations, the question is: in the context of mass entrepreneurship and innovation, how to promote the cooperation between the two sides to give birth to a new business model that can create synergy? Moreover, financial technology, smart manufacturing, and comprehensive health have opened up tremendous opportunities for entrepreneurship and innovation on the mainland. How will mainland companies partner with Hong Kong businesses in these hot fields to ride the third wave of globalization?

Co-founded by the Chinese government and the European Commission, CEIBS is a joint-venture for management education that delivers a combination of “China Depth and Global Breadth”. Sticking to its internationalization strategy, the school is committed to cultivating business leaders, who think globally and excel in global governance. At the Forum, China’s top-notch financial experts and industry elites will share their insights into opportunities presented by China’s new economy and emerging industries.
