Former EU Commission President, Former Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi Set to Begin Professorship at CEIBS

February 9, 2010. Shanghai campus -- Former EU Commission President and Former Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi will begin his Professorship at CEIBS with an impressive roster of events in March. Mr Prodi’s working visit will include delivering presentations to CEIBS MBA and EMBA students and alumni, and speaking to the EU Chambers of Commerce in both Shanghai and Beijing.

Events get underway on March 8, when Prof. Prodi will participate in an evening roundtable with CEIBS faculty during which they will explore “The Role of a Business School in the 21st Century.” The session will be chaired by CEIBS Dean and Vice President Rolf D. Cremer.

On March 9, Prof. Prodi will meet with journalists during a press conference at the CEIBS-Lujiazui Finance Research Centre (CLFC), followed by his first lecture to CEIBS MBA students on the Shanghai campus. A lunch presentation to the EU Chamber of Commerce in China is on the agenda for March 10, followed by a roundtable at CEIBS that will explore the “Reform of the International Financial Architecture.”

Prof. Prodi will also participate in a roundtable with Chinese scholars on March 11, followed by an evening lecture with CEIBS MBA students. “The 21st Century Main Dynamics” is the topic that he will explore on March 12 during a CEIBS Executive Forum with Shanghai alumni. On the following day, Prof. Prod will share his insight with CEIBS EMBA students on “What Makes a Great Leader” before going to Beijing on March 15 for two major events. The first is a CEIBS Executive Forum with Beijing Alumni. Prof. Prodi’s working visit then concludes with a presentation to the Beijing representatives of the EU Chamber of Commerce in China.

In his academic and public life, Romano Prodi has been awarded numerous honours and distinctions. These include his appointment as an Honorary Member of the London School of Economics and Political Science (1989) and an Honorary Member of the Madrid-based Real Academia de Ciencias Morales y Políticas (RACMYP) -- Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences -- in 1997. In May 1999 he was awarded the Schumpeter Prize by the International Joseph A. Schumpeter Society in Vienna.
