January 27, 2010. Beijing -- Nearly 200 highly-regarded scholars, government officials and entrepreneurs attended today’s International Symposium on Institutions in Development and Transition, which was held in honour of Bao Steel Chair Professor of Economics at CEIBS, Dr. Wu Jinglian’s, 80th birthday. Throughout the day-and-a-half-long event, the discussions revolved around key issues regarding China’s transition from a planned- to a market economy, and from a low income- to middle income country.
The symposium was hosted by CEIBS and the CEIBS Foundation, CITIC Press, Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management, China Development Research Foundation, the Development Research Centre of the State Council, with support from other well-known organizations. Guest speakers included:

- Masahiko Aoki, President of International Economic Association and Director of the Virtual Centre for Advanced Studies in Institution (VCASI) at Tokyo Foundation

CEIBS Executive President Zhu Xiaoming hosted the opening ceremony. The symposium wound up successfully with CEIBS Honorary President Liu Ji hosting the closing dinner.

Ahead of the symposium, Executive President Zhu Xiaoming and Vice President Zhang Weijiong hosted a luncheon where they presented gifts to Prof. Wu Jinglian on behalf of the entire CEIBS faculty, staff, students and alumni as they wished him good health and longevity. This honour was in recognition of the substantial contributions that Prof. Wu has made to both the Chinese Economy and the founding and development of CEIBS.
