August 4, 2008. Shanghai Campus - CEIBS today held its first trade union representative assembly, with speeches by CEIBS President Zhu Xiaoming and Trade Union Deputy Chairman of Jiao Tong University Ni Hao. CEIBS Vice President and Co-Dean Zhang Weijiong hosted the assembly, which the CEIBS Beijing campus attended via video conferencing.

During the meeting, the school’s first Trade Union Committee was established in accordance with multi-candidate elections and the principle of democratic centralism. The six newly elected Trade Union Committee members are: Wang Jianmao, Xiao Bin, Luo Yongxin, Chen Shaohui, Du Qian and Tang Huijie.
President Zhu Xiaoming said, “With China's reform and opening up and the healthy economic and social development, our school is steadily headed for the ranks of world-class business schools. At the same time, we also face intense competitions and challenges -- both locally and abroad. Therefore, the establishment of trade union organizations will significantly improve the school’s democratic decision-making and management processes, help the school liaise closely with faculty and staff, listen to and reflect their views and requirements, care for their work, study and livelihood.”

During the meeting, Vice President and Co-Dean Zhang Weijiong read aloud the format that the trade union elections would follow, and introduced the seven candidates. CEIBS Associate Dean and Professor of Economics Wang Jianmao then reported on the preparatory work leading up to the establishment of the trade union. The election of teller candidates preceded the voting for CEIBS first ever trade union committee, which was established through secret ballot by 38 representatives. After the election, Prof. Wang Jianmao made a resolution, on behalf of the newly elected trade union committee, to work hard in keeping with the CEIBS motto of "conscientiousness, innovation, the pursuit of excellence".
As a representative of a higher-level trade union organization, Trade Union Deputy Chairman of Jiao Tong University Ni Hao gave an overview of China's trade unions and emphasised that trade union organizations must be "staff-oriented", adhere to reform, make the trade union a link between the Party and the masses, and become representatives and defenders of staff’s interests.
The following day, CEIBS held its first Trade Union Committee Assembly and discussed members’ duties. Prof. Wang Jianmao was elected as Chairman of trade unions, Du Qian as Commissary in charge of organization, Chen Shaohui as Commissary in charge of publicity, Xiao Bin as Commissary in charge of female staff, Luo Yongxin as Commissary in charge of culture and sports, and Tang Huijie as Commissary in charge of livelihood. The meeting also discussed and adopted the revision of the "China Europe International Business School pension programme".
