December 16, 2007. Shenzhen campus -- CEIBS launched the HR Learning Consortium on its Shenzhen campus today, attracting more than 30 top-level HR managers to the debut forum. Among attendees was Vanke Co. Vice President Xie Dong, who spoke on "How HR Managers Become the Company's Strategic Partners."

The CEIBS HR Learning Consortium offers a platform upon which top HR managers can share knowledge on HR management best practices. Events such as the December 16 forum will allow CEIBS to consolidate its connections with Chinese enterprises, to deepen its understanding of the challenges faced by these enterprises, and to effectively promote business-academic collaboration.

In his speech, Mr. Xie outlined effective management concepts from Vanke's four key areas of emphasis: strategy, people, routine operations, and processes. Mr. Xie stressed that the role of an HR manager includes serving as a strategic partner for the enterprise, an administrative affairs expert, and a technical expert in HR. Xie noted that in order for enterprises to transition from traditional personnel management to modern HR management, they must develop expertise in both in administrative affairs and technical skills. This training, he said, will help enterprises by fostering "customer consciousness" and by helping the company to track business development and remain forward-looking. Xie warned that this transition, although necessary, is difficult to accomplish.

Through vivid real-life examples, Mr. Xie shared Vanke's transformation in HR management. He explained how the company established a complete HR management system through unifying management philosophies, measures, and languages, and by developing a resources platform. During the transformation process, the company conducted experiments in selected enterprises to test each change. In addition, Vanke relied on training to provide ample human resources for the enterprise's future development.

In addition to Mr. Xie, other high-level management attendees in the forum included:
- Bosera Funds HR General Manager Yin Qingjun,
- Shenzhen CATIC HR Director Zhang Guochao,
- Huawei HR Vice President Lu Ke,
- China Overseas Land & Investment Assistant General Manager Zhu Yijian
- China Merchants (International) General Manager for HRD Wang Yihong
- TCL HR Director Xu Fang.

The forum was chaired by CEIBS Assistant President and Director of Executive Education Hobbs Liu. Consortium Committee Representative and Shenzhen CATIC Managers School President and HR Director Zhang Guochao also delivered a speech during the forum, expressing hope that the Consortium will serve as a conduit through which members can learn from each other.

The CEIBS HR Management Practice Consortium meets next in March 2008.
