November 30, 2007. CEIBS-Lujiazui International Finance Research Center --The China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) announced that the school has been awarded the highly coveted "Europe-China Business Management Training Project," receiving funding of Euro 10.1 million from the European Union. The Shanghai Municipal Government will also supply CEIBS with substantial funding in support of this project.

At a press conference attracting 40 members of the media to the newly opened CEIBS-Lujiazui International Finance Research Center, CEIBS Vice President and Dean Rolf D. Cremer stressed the significance of receiving the Europe-China Business Management Training Project. The project will bring a number of new developments to CEIBS, focusing on the central goal of transferring high level, practically-oriented business knowledge from the EU to China.

Specific project activities will include: providing educational opportunities for disadvantaged individuals, groups and regions in China (especially Western provinces), as well as for women; launching a pilot PhD program; and delivering business management training with an emphasis on responsibility and leadership.

" With this project, the Chinese authorities have endorsed CEIBS very clearly as the platform for further advancement of business education and research in China," said Dean Cremer. Academic partners in the BMT Project will be: European Foundation for Management Development, Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, and IESE School of Business.

CEIBS received official recognition during the recent EU-China Business Summit for its accomplishments in promoting international standard business education to China. On November 28, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao concluded his address at the Summit, held in Beijing's Great Hall of the People, with the following remarks: "China will continue to cooperate with the European Union in the areas of education and science. Our previous agreements have led to obvious, positive results. The China Europe International Business School is an example of this. CEIBS has become an incubator for excellent business leaders."

In commenting on the award, CEIBS President Zhu Xiaoming remarked that CEIBS' successful bid for the project was a milestone in China-EU cooperation. During the open-bidding process, CEIBS faced many strong competitors. The school's successful bid shows CEIBS' strength despite being established only 13 years.

CEIBS' 2007 Milestones

After Dean Cremer's speech, CEIBS Vice President and Co-Dean Zhang Weijiong shared with media recent milestones and new developments for the business school. 2007 was a year of major accomplishments for the school. First, CEIBS was ranked as the top MBA program in Asia by the Financial Times annual global ranking media group for the 4th year in a row and was also ranked as 11th worldwide. In addition, the CEIBS EMBA program was ranked 23rd worldwide by the FT.

In June 2007, CEIBS renewed its accreditation from the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) for a further five years. CEIBS remains the only business school in mainland China to have received European-standard accreditation. (EQUIS is a renowned international system of quality assessment, improvement, and accreditation of higher education institutions in management and business administration.)

Among important media events during 2007, CEIBS hosted its First China Bankers Forum, first annual Media Forum, third annual China Healthcare Management Forum and fifth annual Automotive Industry Forum. The school also launched five new centers during the past year, which are particularly useful as resources to media. They are:
 China Outsourcing Research Center
 CEIBS-Zhejiang University Center for International Entrepreneurship
 Center for Marketing and Innovation Management
 Center for Global Operations Management and Value Chain Integration
 CEIBS-Lujiazui International Finance Research Center

Co-Dean Zhang explained that the CEIBS-Lujiazui International Finance Research Center was launched in October 12 with support from the Shanghai Municipal Government. The purpose of the center is to meet the needs of Shanghai in its endeavor to build an international financial center. Toward this end, the center will serve as an authoritative and influential think tank, offering first-class research, consulting and training services to government and financial institutions.

CEIBS Developments in 2008

Co-Dean Zhang announced that the coming year will bring expansion to all three CEIBS locations: in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen. Construction of the Beijing campus, which began in October 2007, will be completed by early 2009. Phase I of construction will cover 8,000 square meters.

In Shanghai, CEIBS has acquired 38,400 square meters of land adjacent to its present campus with the support of the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Pudong New Area Government. The Shanghai Municipal Government has committed that it will match the EU contribution for the Phase 3 construction if the School wins the EU tender. CEIBS will also expand its facility in Shenzhen next year.

Another exciting development coming in 2008, Co-Dean Zhang announced, is the launch of the CEIBS Publishing House. The business is being developed using investment from a venture capital company.

The press conference concluded with a Q&A with the media attendees and an invitation from CEIBS for members of the media to visit the campus throughout 2008 to interview professors and administrators and to follow up on the School's ongoing developments.
