Prof. Liang Neng Met with Shenzhen Entrepreneurs about Going Global

August 25, 2006. Professor Liang Neng, Associate Dean and the Director of EMBA Program at CEIBS, delivered a keynote speech entitled "Managerial Challenges of Going International" at a forum which was well attended by the entrepreneurs from the Southern China. The forum produced enthusiastic responses from among the cluster of high flyers in Shenzhen area.

At the forum, Mr. Chen Zhilie, Chairman of the Board of EVOC Intelligent Technology Company Ltd., shared with the participants his hands-on experiences and perplexing questions in the course of the Chinese enterprises' going global. Mr. Chen is a famous entrepreneur in the high-tech business community in Shenzhen. He started his business from scratch, and successfully listed the company to Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2003. Consequently, his company has achieved splendid results in the mainland and overseas markets. Mr. Chen Zhilie is also an alumnus of 2004 class of EMBA Program, CEIBS.

Mr. Chen highlighted the importance of "know yourself and make a long term plan". He also gave some valuable advice: "We should exercise patience in conducting market research and make rational decisions"; "We should choose the debut market to launch our products"; "We should make use of the rivals' strength to beat the rivals, and so we have to build up two teams: one is local team, and the other is overseas."; and "Capital and Business may fly wing to wing."

In conclusion, Mr. Chen said, "In my view, we, the Chinese should take full of internationalization. In consequence of globalization, we, the Chinese should be the backstage manipulator who equipped himself with the world vision, and he, who got his business composed of the best elements assimilated from many different countries will surely know how to get ideal return on the world-wide investments." The entrepreneurs on the occasion agreed with his opinion.

In the following, Professor Liang delivered the keynote speech, he pointed out: "The world grows globally: you won't get far in business without a thorough understanding and vision." As for the Chinese enterprises going global, Professor Liang took up the questions perplexed the participants.

He then summed up what they worried about, and probed deeply step by step into the crux of the problems and common mistakes: Why do the Chinese enterprises must go global; how to select overseas markets; how to make strategy for getting access into the world market, and how to deal with the specific problems of business management in a targeted country and in-house structure for going global and overseas assignments management.

"All in all, the success of overseas management of a company hinges on its structure, management quality and networks," Professor Liang pointed out, "It also depends on its determination as well as on whether the company put whole heart into it or not."  His excellent speech aroused the enthusiastic responses from the audience. It has also kindled their strong interest in CEIBS, "a World-class Brand made in China".

Professor Liang works as a Professor of Management, Associate Dean and Director of EMBA Program at CEIBS. His publications on importer behavior and unsolicited exporter order won "Anbar research excellence" award twice in Europe (1996; 1998), and the relevant "Import behavior model" is included in the primary teaching materials of International Business which is being used by American higher education institutions.

Following the conclusion of Professor Liang's speech, 2007 EMBA info session was held.
