Shanghai, July 13th 2006: Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince and Princess of Spain visited CEIBS on the occasion of the establishment of a new partnership between ICEX (the Spanish Institute of External Commerce) and CEIBS. The visit of their Royal Highnesses to CEIBS marked the strong relations and support from both the Spanish Government and Spanish companies over the years through the Spanish Chair in Economics, the establishment of the Spanish residence student dormitory, the Spanish Centre on campus, as well as supporting the CEIBS Development Fund. The Spanish language is also taught as an option on the CEIBS MBA programme.
Under the new partnership, ICEX will sponsor the further development of the CEIBS Centre for Entrepreneurship through a donation of EURO 500,000 with the aim of training both Chinese and Spanish business people with an interest in both cultures to develop their entrepreneurial and business skills.
During the ceremony, the Spanish Secretary of State for Tourism and Trade, Mr. Pedro Mejia Gomez outlined that the new partnership with CEIBS would facilitate greater commercial opportunities between Chinese and Spanish business people. CEIBS will also play an active role in the screening process of the Spanish Programme for the Recruitment and Training of Foreign Professionals from China.
The ceremony was followed by a luncheon on campus, attended by their Royal Highness, the Prince and Princess of Spain; Mr. Liu from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Ambassador of Spain to China, HE Mr. Sebastian de Erice, the Consul General of Spain to China, Mr. Alvargonzales as well as Professors Pedro Nueno, Executive President of CEIBS; Mr. Zhu Xiaoming, President of CEIBS; Professor Liu Ji, Honarary President of CEIBS; Professor Rolf D. Cremer, Dean & Vice President of CEIBS; Professor Zhang Weijiong, Vice President & Co-Dean of CEIBS.
