Professor Klaus Meyer Elected Vice President of AIB
February 20, 2012
Professor Klaus Meyer has been elected to the position of Vice President of the Academy of International Business (AIB), the largest scholarly association in the field of international business. He will join the AIB board in July 2012 for a two-year period, during which he will be responsible for the programme of the 2014 conference to be held in Vancouver, Canada.

The AIB is the leading association of scholars and specialists in the field of international business. Established in 1959, AIB has over 3000 members in 76 different countries around the world. Members include scholars from the leading global academic institutions as well as consultants, researchers, government and NGO representatives. Its annual conferences are held each summer in various locations around the world, and attract more than 1000 participants. Each conference features a combination of plenary sessions, panels, and double-blind peer reviewed papers.
Professor Meyer has been involved with the AIB for over a decade, and has had various responsibilities within the organisation. He served as section chair for several conferences, including the first conference held in Beijing, China, in 2006, and he is also a Consulting Editor for the AIB journal, the Journal of International Business Studies.
In his new role, he plans to promote scholarship and business education focusing specifically on the interaction between local contexts and global businesses. Professor Meyer explains, “The essence of globalisation is that, aided by reduced transport and information costs, businesses can cross boundaries to ever more distant locations. Yet, to succeed in those distant locations they need local knowledge more than ever. Paradoxically, globalization thus makes it more important to study the differences between cultures and the consequences of such differences for businesses.” AIB provides a forum to discuss these challenges with both scholars and practitioners. Professor Meyer adds, “Vancouver will be a great location to discuss the interfaces of business between East and West.”
Klaus Meyer has been Professor of Strategy and International Business at the China Europe International Business School since September 2011, joining from the University of Bath in England.
