Investment Opportunities in Hong Kong
2007 was a milestone for China overseas investments. In order to prepare MBA 07 students with an insight into overseas investment markets, the Investment and CFA Club invited Mr. Jin Hui, Shanghai Regional Sales Director of First Shanghai, to engage us on "Investment Opportunities in Hong Kong".
Mr. Jin’s extensive experience in the HK market has familiarized him with the different sections of HK markets such as the derivatives market. Through this forum, Mr. Jin ootook the audience on a retrospect of the HK securities market, its characteristics and an overview of the impacts of the launch of QDII. Mr. Jin also shared insights on the potential benefits and risks of investing in the HK market today. Moreover, he specifically discussed the most pertinent variable in the HK market, which is the policy risk derived from Chinese government. It was forecasted that if the government pulled the plug on opening up the HK market to Chinese private investors, it would result in severe repercussions in the HK market as a whole. His prediction later proved to be true at the end of 2007. Overall, Mr. Jin spoke from the perspectives of a veteran insider, analyzing the micro and macro factors which affects the stock market, as well as the intrinsic correlation of these factors. His in-depth analysis and insights wereas highly acclaimed by our MBA students.
This Hong Kong market investment forum was only one of the many events that the CEIBS Investment and CFA club held in first semester. In accordance with the club’s objectives, the events were tailored to sharpen the financial knowledge and instincts of MBA students. Looking forward, our club will strengthen the liaison with financial institutions by organizing company visits and internship interview.
