Sunny Cup final results: CEIBS athletes emerge victorious

Organized by Shanghai MBA Union, the semi-final and final matches of the annual Sunny Cup was played on 17 and 18 Nov). CEIBS athletes, despite their small number, achieved victory in multiple events! After two weekends of intense, spirited competition, CEIBS achieved top-3 positions in badminton, soccer and basketball.

In an astounding display of team depth, the badminton team, despite registering the smallest number of players, finished the tournament with a 3-gold, 1-silver performance out of 5 medals at stake. Andy Yip won the Men’s Singles championship; and he also won the Men’s Doubles championship with Stephen Lin. Wavey Hu and Eileen Xiao are the Women’s Doubles champions and Hui Zhang was runner-up in the Ladies Singles championship.

In the soccer grand final, CEIBS’ soccer team fought hard but were unlucky to lose on penalties after the match had ended 3-3 at full-time. The performance of our players was outstanding throughout the tournament.  CEIBS had 2 players who featured among the top goal－scorers of the entire tournament, and this made the silver medal more meaningful.

In basketball, CEIBS finished in 3rd place overall. The team battled hard in the semi-final but lost 31-21. Nevertheless, the team picked themselves up and overcame their disappointment by defeating SHUFE 40-27 in the 3rd/4th place match.

The outstanding performance of CEIBS athletes in this year’s Sunny Cup is the result of much hard work and sacrifice on the part of all participants. We salute all our athletes for their proud achievements.
