Sparkled and Enjoyable Mentorship

My first impression on GM Yang is low profile and practical. During the following interaction, I realize that GM Yang is not only an outstanding investment manager with rich investment experience, but also an enthusiastic mentor who is good at influencing mentees by both his words and actions.

Since the very beginning of the Mentor Program, GM’s involvement is very active. At the end of the opening ceremony, GM Yang communicated immediately with us mentees to know our background and our expectation of this program. Afterwards, he shared with us his tentative plans and ideas on how to help us to achieve our goals. Before the ending of the first meeting, he confirmed with us the time for the second meeting.

Since then, GM Yang clearly presented us the career development path for an investment manager and the necessary quality that an outstanding investment manager should possess through both verbal communication and his own personal example. Via various communication channels including dinner together, msn, email and phone, GM Yang detailed us the prospect of China’s PE, VC and mutual fund; how us MBA graduates enter these areas and develop ourselves to a successful investment manager. In addition, he introduced us his friends to share with us their investment philosophies and experience so that we can expose to different investment styles. To help us get practical knowledge of investment and valuation, he also led us to visit a company with a plan to IPO to learn how to research on a company and make management proposal to the top management. However, what impresses and influences me most is his enthusiasm on continuous learning, his active and independent thinking and persistence on objectivity and logic tightness of investment analysis and valuation.

Besides investment, GM Yang often exchanges ideas with us on various tops, such as music, reading, news, school lectures and sports. Communication with a professional manager with an active thinking and unique perspective is not only inspiring but also enjoyable.
